The Healthy Youth Coalition of Marinette and Menominee Counties (HYC) is pleased to announce that The Stephenson National Bank & Trust has pledged $12,000 over four years to support the coalition’s mission beyond federal funding.  This is the second four-year pledge SNBT has made to the coalition. SNBT began supporting HYC in 2010 and has committed to do so until 2018.  The first pledge was for $10,000 over four years, ending in March 2014.

“We can’t thank The Stephenson National Bank & Trust enough for their continued support of HYC and our mission.  This is their second pledge to our coalition and their investment will help HYC continue to operate the way it does today once federal support is no longer available. It’s great to see that others believe in our mission as much as we do”, states HYC Executive Director, Sarah Hanson.

HYC is currently funded by the Drug Free Communities Support Grant. This is a federal grant which is awarded for only ten years.  During the ten year grant period, coalitions are expected to create relationships and secure other funding sources to become self sustaining beyond federal funding.  HYC will enter year ten on October 1st and is focusing on building a sustainability fund so the coalition can serve youth in the community for years to come!  The sustainability fund will help support programming and the operations of the coalition once federal support ends.  Some of the coalition’s programs include Every 15 Minutes, Awareness Day Youth Leadership Conferences, monthly meetings and prevention activities with eight different schools, Red Ribbon Week Activities, Courageous Persuaders Competition, Media Campaign, HYC/C2C Substance Abuse Task Force activities, Tragic Terror (reality haunted house), All Star’s Character Education in elementary schools and at the DAR Boy’s and Girl’s Club, and much more!

“The Stephenson National Bank & Trust believes in our ongoing partnership with the Healthy Youth Coalition. They touch so many lives in countless ways; for this reason, SNBT wants to ensure that the HYC mission is carried out for years to come,” said Daniel J. Peterson, SNBT President & CEO. “The monetary pledge we’ve made is one tangible way to re-affirm our commitment to our local communities, but it pales in comparison to the passion, motivation, and sacrifice put forth by the members of this organization. We encourage others to join us in our commitment to make our communities better, safer places to live.”

HYC is a youth driven organization devoted to promoting healthy lifestyles among youth and their families throughout Marinette and Menominee Counties.  The mission of the coalition is to work collaboratively with all sectors of the community to promote youth initiatives, value our youth voices and build healthy families and communities by focusing on alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention.  For more information about the coalition, please contact Sarah Hanson at 906-863-5665 ext. 1038.
