It’s deer season Michigan hunters! As exciting as this week is, we also know it’s one of the most popular times that youth engage in underage drinking. As store owners have stated to us, their usual beer order DOUBLES in order to prepare for this week. Therefore, we would like to remind those over the age of 21 NOT to provide to minors. Under Michigan law it is illegal to provide alcohol to a minor and could result up to a $1,000 fine and/or 60 days in jail. Last week our HYC youth members teamed up with Sergeant Brian Helfert and Erin and Jenni from Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties to host the “Sticker Shock” project throughout the county. Check out Fazer’s Foods, Carney Quick Mart, Tom’s Market of Carney and Gary’s IGA of Wallace and Stephenson for our bright yellow stickers with this information placed on cases of beer and multi packs of malt beverages. Thank you Stephenson, North Central and Carney HYC groups and the above businesses for doing their part to reduce underage drinking in our community! Good luck hunters and stay SAFE!
